The European Research Council has recently awarded a grant of €13 million to the SUBNORDICA project. This is a collaboration between the University of Bradford, the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research, Moesgaad Museum and Aarhus University as principal institutions, with partner investigators from the University of York, the Geological Survey of the Netherlands (TNO) and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). Over a six-year period the project will explore the submerged landscapes of the southern North Sea and the western Baltic, using the latest technologies and AI to identiy traces of prehistoric settlement. The project will be led by Vince Gaffney with Katrine Juul Andresen, Peter Moe Astrup and Svea Mahlstedt as Principal Investigators, and Geoff Bailey, Freek Busschers, Sytze van Heteren, Tine Missiaen and Ruth Plets as Partner Investigators.
